Emission Control Areas (ECAs) are expanding worldwide, and IMO’s EEXI, CII, and other efficiency metrics are tightening annually. Low‑rated vessels face commercial penalties or even operating bans. Hybrid systems enable zero‑emission operation in ports and sensitive waters, helping vessels improve CII ratings and avoid fines.

Reliability & Long‑Endurance Range

Merchant vessels often sail for weeks across oceans – propulsion must be highly reliable. Hybrid architecture provides redundancy: if the main engine fails, batteries and electric motor serve as backup propulsion. Shaft generators can also recharge batteries while underway, ensuring uninterrupted range. Modular battery design supports rapid repairs, reducing downtime losses.

Zero‑Emission Port Operation & Shore Power Compatibility

Many ports now require vessels to use shore power or achieve zero emissions while berthed. Equipped with batteries and shore power interfaces, merchant vessels can shut down auxiliary engines during port stays, relying entirely on shore power or battery supply – eliminating noise and exhaust, complying with port regulations, and saving fuel and maintenance costs on auxiliary engines.

Are batteries seawater resistant?

HyMatt‑P1 and LanghESS‑S1 cabinets are salt‑spray tested, IP67 sealed, with marine‑grade corrosion‑resistant connectors.

Is charging convenient?

Use ordinary 220V shore power (slow charge) or optional DC fast charge. Small solar panels can also be added for trickle charging.

What is battery lifespan?

5,000 cycles retaining 80% capacity. One full discharge daily equals over 13 years of use.

Do I need a new charger?

If replacing lead‑acid with HyMatt‑P1 at the same voltage, the original charger may work, but we recommend a lithium‑specific charger for optimal lifespan.

Will the retrofit pass vessel inspection?

We provide complete drawings and documentation to assist with ZC or CCS approval. Successful cases exist.
